BREAKING THE MOLD: FLOURISHING MULTICENTRE TRIALS IN CANADA – CELLCAN'S TMM WORKSHOP

Would submission of a package to a single Review Ethics Board in Canada be the answer to the contemporary challenges of collaborative multicentre research? Is there a proofed way of producing cells for multicentre clinical trial? How can we ensure regulatory compliance in a clinical trial occurring in multiple sites? Those are some of the questions that were addressed at CellCAN's workshop ‘'Breaking the mold: flourishing multicentre trials in Canada'' on November 7th at the Till & McCulloch Meetings in Mont-Tremblant. Missed it? The presentations are exclusively available here.

BUILDING A STRONG CELL & GENE MANUFACTURING NETWORK THROUGH THE EXTRANET

Did you know CellCAN has a highly secured web-based platform for sharing knowledge? Called the Extranet, it allows private groups to be created, enables protocol sharing between sites and facilitates the flow of information for multicentre clinical trials. The Extranet is specifically designed to ensure the confidentiality of data and maintain IP-protection. The objectives of this Extranet are to: Facilitate the sharing of technical information between the cell and tissue therapy centres; Facilitate communications between experts; Facilitate new and existing collaborative projects; Share and implement best practices across Canada.

BENCH TO BEDSIDE FOR BIOTHERAPEUTICS (B3) WORKSHOP: A FIRST EDITION AND A CLEAR SUCCESS

On October 5th, the Clinical Translation Education Group (CTEG; CellCAN, BiocanRX, Stem Cell Network, Ontario Institute of Regenerative Medicine, Canadian Centre for Regenerative Medicine, Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, and the Foundation for Fighting Blindness) held its first collaborative workshop in Toronto. Over 100 trainees were able to learn on the various opportunities and hurdles faced when developing new therapies and especially about ways to overcome these challenges, from translation to reimbursement. CellCAN's two representatives, Friederike Pfau (Loex) and Gayle Piat (ACTM) discussed how to transition research projects into a GMP environment and shared an empirical perspective of the unique challenges of the workflow in a GMP lab. The first edition of this workshop was a resounding success, and subsequent workshops are currently in the works – stay tuned.

Fortunately, if you missed the B3 Workshop, videos from the presentations are available here.
